Elihu Stout
1966
In a sense, Elihu Stout is the first member of the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame.
Stout published the first newspaper in the state of Indiana, the Indiana Gazette, on July 4, 1804.
A New Jersey native, Stout came to Indiana when Governor William Henry Harrison asked him to print the laws of the northwest territory.
Years later, the Gazette became the Western Sun and was published once every two weeks.
