Lee Giles

Lee Giles has served as News Director of WISH-TV, Channel 8, since May, 1968, after joining the Indiana polis CBS affiliate in 1963 as the station’s first editorial director.

Prior to his appointment as news director, Giles served in various other capacities in the WISH-TV news department, including anchor, State House reporter, and managing editor.

As news director, Giles supervises a staff of more than 65 persons involved in WISH-TV’s 24 Hour News Service, with more time devoted to news daily and weekly than any other Indiana television station.

An active member of the Radio-Television News Directors Association, Giles has served on the RTNDA Research Committee. He is a past president, office holder, and board member of the Indiana Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and served several years as a member of the UPI Broadcasters of Indiana Advisory Board.
From 1977-1989, Giles also served as an associate faculty member of Indiana-Purdue University, Indianapolis, teaching speech and telecommunications; and also taught TV news for four years at Butler University, Indianapolis.

Giles began his professional broadcast career as a news writer/reporter for WLW Radio and WLW-T, Cincinnati; was news director of WLBJ Radio, Bowling Green, Kentucky; and assistant director of public relations for Western Kentucky State College, Bowling Green.

Giles was awarded the A.B. Degree in Radio Arts, English and Journalism by the University of Kentucky, and the M.A. Degree in Television and Political Science by Michigan State University.

Giles and his wife Diane have three children: Mike, a freelance graphics artist; Nick, a news photographer/editor with WOOD-TV, Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Susie, a senior at Ball State University.

The Giles family home is on a farm northwest of Indianapolis.
